The town of Marín recovered the tradition on Thursday of saying goodbye to the students of the Naval Military School who are finishing their studies

The Navy will count from next Tuesday, July 16, Day of Carmen, patroness of the seafarers, with 123 new officers, students who have spent these years in Marín and who now have their first assignments after finishing their training at the Naval Military School in the town.
The mayor of Marín, María Ramallo, wanted to recover this Thursday the tradition of saying goodbye to the students before their graduation after several years paralyzed by the pandemic. At the beginning of their academic journey, it is also customary for the Town Council to welcome the new officer candidates.
A promotion marked by the pandemic
During the meeting, which took place in the Plenary Hall of the Town Hall of Marín, the mayor recalled that this generation of midshipmen, who began their journey in 2019, «went through everything» because the pandemic brought changes and novelties to their training, «but now you can have a very special, very important Day of Carmen, with the entire school decorated for you.» In fact, this year will be a doubly special graduation, as it will coincide with the first visit to the military center by Princess Leonor, who will preside over the ceremony of the delivery of Royal Dispatches along with her father, King Felipe VI.
Ramallo wanted to convey to all the future officers «my most sincere congratulations for your work and dedication these years, but above all, good luck and encouragement for the challenges you have ahead, as your vocation for public service entails great sacrifices, especially at a personal level.»

Two locals among the future officers
Two students, Pablo Álvarez Gutiérrez and Francisco Manuel Quico García Torres, both from Marín, also spoke at the reception. They both stated that this town «will be engraved in the memory of those who are not from here, but already feel as if they were, throughout their lives, much more strongly than other destinations where we will be passing through.»
The mayor of Marín and the battalion of students concluded the event with the traditional photograph on the steps of the Town Hall and with the mayor handing out a printed photograph of their welcome when they started their studies in the town five years ago.

In addition to the emotional farewell ceremony for the future officers, the Naval Military School in Marín plays a crucial role in shaping the next generation of naval leaders. The school’s rigorous training program not only prepares students for the challenges of a military career but also instills values of honor, duty, and service to the nation.

The presence of Princess Leonor at the upcoming graduation ceremony highlights the importance of the Naval Military School in Marín on a national level. Her participation underscores the school’s significance in the training and education of Spain’s future naval officers.

As the new officers embark on their respective assignments, they carry with them the knowledge and experiences gained during their time in Marín. The bonds formed with their fellow classmates and instructors will serve as a foundation for their future careers in the Navy.

The town of Marín remains proud of its association with the Naval Military School and the students who have walked its halls. The traditions upheld by the school, such as the farewell ceremony, serve as a reminder of the dedication and commitment required to serve in the armed forces.

In conclusion, the graduation of the new class of midshipmen in Marín marks not only the end of their training but also the beginning of their journey as naval officers. The town celebrates their achievements and wishes them success in their future endeavors, knowing that they will always carry a piece of Marín with them wherever they go.
