Jorge Prado, the Spanish rider for GasGas and the current champion, secured a victory in the qualifying race of the Flanders Grand Prix in the MXGP Motocross World Championship on Saturday. This win allowed him to close the gap on the leader, Slovenian Tim Gajser riding for Honda, by two points. Prado triumphed at the Belgian circuit in Lommel, finishing ahead of Dutch rider Jeffrey Herlings on KTM, who came in second just 1.078 seconds behind. Gajser took the third spot, trailing by 24.434 seconds.

This victory marks Prado’s fourth ‘pole’ of the season and his first since mid-May, when he achieved the same feat at the Galicia Grand Prix in Lugo. The stage is now set for the two main races of the Flanders Grand Prix scheduled for Sunday. Prado will be aiming to narrow the gap even further between himself and Gajser, who currently leads the overall championship standings with 671 points, holding a 34-point advantage over Prado.
