A live-action adaptation of the popular manga «Cells at Work! (Hataraku Saibou)» has surprised fans with a promotional trailer released on the official Twitter account for the franchise. The video reveals the cast of actors and confirms that the movie is set to premiere in December 2024 in Japanese theaters.
The manga, written and illustrated by Akane Shimizu, began serialization in January 2015 and concluded in January 2021 with six compiled volumes. The success of the series has led to various spin-off stories by different authors, some of which have been adapted into anime, including the main franchise which received two seasons produced by David Production.
The cast of the live-action film includes Mei Nagano, known for her roles in «My Broken Mariko», «Ni no Kuni», «Peach Girl», and «Teasing Master Takagi-san», as the Red Blood Cell, and Takeru Satou, known for his roles in «Rurouni Kenshin», «Ajin», «Bakuman», and «Beck», as the White Blood Cell.
The movie is directed by Hideki Takeuchi, known for his work on «Nodame Cantabile», «Thermae Romae», and «Fly Me to Saitama», while Yuuichi Tokunaga, known for «Kaguya-sama: Love is War», «Liar x Liar», and «Princess Jellyfish», is in charge of writing and overseeing the scripts. Warner Bros. Japan will distribute the film, with the international streaming platform yet to be announced.
«Cells at Work!» is a unique story that takes place inside the human body, following the daily lives of the cells that make up the body.
