Carla, a 25-year-old woman from Valencia, survived a serious bacterial infection but had to have her hands and feet amputated. It all started after she underwent surgery at the hospital, which led to her being in the ICU and induced coma. When she woke up, she no longer had her limbs.
Carla’s life has taken a 180-degree turn. Despite the difficult health setback she experienced, she is still alive. This young woman from Valencia had a normal life until she had to be hospitalized for what was supposed to be a routine procedure to remove a lump in her groin. However, a few days after being discharged, she started vomiting and having diarrhea. Initially, it didn’t seem serious.
But as time went on, Carla’s condition worsened. She was diagnosed with a bacterial infection that had spread throughout her body. The situation became very serious, to the point where she was transferred to the ICU and put into a coma. She suffered multiple cardiac arrests, organ failure, and the medical team even told her parents to say goodbye to her because they thought she wouldn’t make it. She survived, woke up from the coma after 12 days, but not without consequences – her limbs had to be amputated due to the aggressiveness of the bacteria.
Carla shared her story on a TV program, where she also expressed a message of optimism, highlighting that survival rates for such cases are increasing. Bacterial infections can be severe and spread rapidly in the body, causing tissue death and, in extreme cases like Carla’s, leading to amputations to save lives.
Maintaining good hygiene, especially for cuts and wounds, can help reduce the risks of bacterial infections. It is important to follow medical advice and seek prompt medical attention if there are any concerns, as bacteria can have serious consequences if left untreated. Infections like staphylococcus aureus or clostridium perfringens can be highly virulent and require immediate attention to prevent further complications.
