South Africa to be Represented at International Conference on Gaza
According to a statement from the organization, the Conference will articulate the minimum requirements to ensure sustained, predictable, and sufficient supply of humanitarian assistance can reach Gaza through land and maritime routes, in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2720 (2023).
It is also expected to describe the minimum requirements to ensure conducive conditions for the safe and effective distribution of aid within Gaza, including those related to the protection of civilians and humanitarian personnel, the text adds.
This is in line with previous calls for an immediate ceasefire and is based on the existing limitations for the safe and effective delivery of aid, explained the Ministry.
According to the statement, the conference is expected to be co-chaired by King Abdullah II of Jordan, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
Minister Lamola reiterated that the South African government remains committed to advocating for peace in Gaza and expresses the country’s determination to seek justice through all available international legal channels.
