The state of the roads in Mendoza on June 12
The Provincial Highway Department reports the state of the roads in Mendoza for Wednesday, June 12. In some routes in the Province of Mendoza, traffic is reduced due to construction, detours, and bad weather. It is recommended, during windy and rainy days, to reduce speed and drive with extreme caution. In case of flooding, avoid crossing areas that could become flooded with alluvial flows. The Executive Unit of Road Safety, under the Secretary of Public Services of Mendoza, emphasizes the need to plan any trip in advance to prevent accidents or undesirable incidents.
Recommendations for driving on the roads of Mendoza
First, if you are going to drive, it is essential to check that your vehicle is in good condition and equip it to face possible scenarios such as fog, rain, snow, or icy roads. It is also essential to know some driving techniques to act in specific situations. It is recommended, during windy and rainy days, to reduce speed and drive with extreme caution in landslide areas. In case of flooding, avoid crossing areas that could become flooded with alluvial flows. Likewise, it is noted that the authorization for vehicular traffic, both for internal transit between localities and for the International Pass, is determined by the general coordinators of each country. Reports: National Gendarmerie. Squadron 27, Uspallata. The Provincial Civil Defense Directorate maintains permanent monitoring.
The road to the Cristo Redentor monument is closed
Vialidad Mendoza closed, as it does every year, the road to the Cristo Redentor de los Andes monument for the rest of the winter season, as the usual weather conditions make the maintenance of the route very difficult and it is not advisable to travel it. The road leading to the monument ascends from 3,557 meters above sea level in Las Cuevas to 3,854 meters above sea level at the top of the peak where the monument erected in 1904 stands in the old Uspallata Pass, on the border between Argentina and Chile. Vialidad Mendoza lowered the access barrier to the 8-kilometer slope from Las Cuevas to the Cristo Redentor monument, a section that will not have any maintenance during the winter season. In this regard, the DPV recommends not crossing the barrier or even attempting to access the circuit with 4×4 vehicles, as it is impassable.
