Bertín Osborne admits to his son with Gabriela Guillén: “I made a mistake and I don’t want to continue doing it”
On December 31, 2023, 37-year-old businesswoman Gabriela Guillén gave birth to her first child, the result of a brief relationship with singer and television presenter Bertín Osborne. At 69 years old, he became the seventh child for him, but he decided not to act as a father. “I will ensure that both he and his mother have a pleasant life. That is what I have to do in justice and what I will do in ethics,” he stated at the time to the magazine ¡Hola!. However, this Wednesday, June 12, Guillén and Osborne released a joint statement in which the singer assumes the paternity of the baby. “Bertín Osborne has publicly announced today his commitment to providing the best future for the baby that Gabriela Guillén gave birth to 5 months ago, thus normalizing the relationship with the businesswoman who was once the singer’s partner and showing the utmost responsibility for this child,” begins the statement signed by both. “In this way, he has considered it essential to put an end to a situation that was not beneficial for either the mother or the baby. Bertín admits that his initial reactions to this situation ‘were not the most appropriate’ on his part and wants to rectify them with actions that allow the child the best opportunities,” the explanation continues. Osborne then goes on to speak in the first person. “I made a mistake, and I don’t want to continue doing it. Gabriela deserves all my respect, and certainly, above us is a child who has to grow up in harmony, away from any controversy. It is a responsibility that I assume,” he admits. The statement ends with a request for respect from the media in order to protect and preserve the image and identity of the child. Guillén, a model and director of an aesthetic clinic in Madrid, and the popular presenter met during an advertising campaign for El Capote in April 2022, a clothing brand for which the artist has been the face of for many years. It was in July 2023 when the news broke that Bertín Osborne was going to become the father of his seventh child through an exclusive in the magazine Lecturas. At that time, the singer and presenter already stated that this was an “unwanted and undesired” child. The media frenzy surrounding his unexpected paternity with Gabriela Guillén led him to post a message on his Instagram account denouncing the harassment by paparazzi: “Let us breathe. You can’t live like this. It will cost her an illness or something worse,” he said. “I wish Gabi and the child the best, I will be there to help as needed, I assume my responsibility, as it should be, but the day-to-day will be the same as today: living alone and working like a donkey attending to all my obligations,” he said on the day the news broke. But shortly after, his statements in an interview with ¡Hola! announced the opposite, stating that he had no intention of acting as a father. In the exclusive, published at the beginning of January just as his son’s birth was announced, he announced his intention to take a paternity test. “It’s not a matter of distrust, but simply a matter that needs to be confirmed because, if not, there are problems. Hey, what if it turns out to be mine? I am a responsible guy and I will help and take care of what I have to take care of. That’s all. There’s nothing else to say. It was a not very long relationship that ended this way… But I have nothing but good words for her. I simply decided that I will not be a father.” Osborne became a father again last January, almost at the same time as he became a grandfather for the eighth time. The singer had three daughters, Alejandra, Eugenia, and Claudia, and a son, Cristian, who died shortly after birth due to a malformation, with Sandra Domecq, whom he was married to from 1977 to 1999. From his second marriage to Fabiola Martínez, two more boys, Kike and Carlos, were born.
