The summer campaign is expected to boost employment by up to 15%, according to job placement agencies. They point to tourism and hospitality as key drivers of the job market, especially along the coast and in major cities. Adecco forecasts an increase of between 10 and 15% compared to last year’s campaign, with Catalonia, Madrid, the Valencian Community, and Andalusia leading the way, almost reaching 20%.

The record influx of both domestic and foreign tourists will drive employment in the tourism and hospitality sectors, with a focus on coastal areas, major cities, as well as related sectors such as airports, logistics, and transportation. Job roles like waiters, cooks, kitchen assistants, travel agents, housekeepers, leisure or entertainment monitors, and lifeguards will see the highest demand. Other positions like sales associates, promoters, salespeople, cashiers, customer service personnel, and vendors will also be in demand.

Randstad, on the other hand, is slightly more conservative in its forecasts, estimating that summer hiring will reach a peak with 600,000 contracts, a 12.4% increase from last year but still below pre-pandemic levels. The majority of contracts are expected to be in hotels and restaurants (40%), followed by transportation and logistics (38%), commerce (17%), and leisure and entertainment (almost 4%).

The regions with the most hiring weight will be Andalusia with 18% of the total (110,375 contracts), Catalonia with over 16% (97,060), Madrid with nearly 12% (70,500), and the Valencian Community with 11.6% of the total (69,690). However, Cantabria is expected to see the highest growth.

Asempleo, the job placement association, also predicts a 10% increase in employment, with 630,000 contracts, taking into account hotel occupancy and tourist arrivals. President Andreu Cruañas warns of difficulties in filling all the vacancies that will arise in the summer and highlights the need to analyze the impact of fixed-term workers on the campaign.

Manpower reflects Spanish companies’ optimism with a 15% hiring forecast, slightly lower than last year but still positive. While the tourism sector traditionally leads in summer hiring, companies in the health and pharmacy sectors show the highest intentions for net hiring at 27%, followed by technology (24%) and transportation, logistics, automotive, consumer goods and services, and industry (all at 19%).

The S&P Global PMI index reports an increase in employment due to growth in the service sector, both domestically and internationally, with countries like France and Germany standing out. Spanish service companies are urgently seeking workers to manage the growing activity. The manufacturing sector also shows an improvement in demand, particularly in the domestic market, leading to increased hiring by Spanish manufacturers.
